Saleem's TV Scores (Sci-Fi/Horror/Fantasy)

Important Tips:
-Some individual seasons released before the blog's creation may not get a rating due to questionable score accuracy. This may lead to some series simply getting a rating for the entire series overall.

TV Series

Science-Fiction/Horror/Fantasy

[Ongoing]

1. The Last of Us

[Season 1] - TBA

2. Tales of the Jedi
[Season 1] - 8/10

3. Andor
[Season 1] - 9/10
"Of all the new Star Wars properties that were announced, Andor was the one that was on the bottom of my list primarily due to the titular character’s Rogue One connection never really standing out to me. And in a delightful twist of events, Andor not only became a series worth watching, but boasted some of the most compelling character writing, strongest direction, intriguing political narrative component, and overall engaging storytelling in the history of the franchise outside of the books."

4. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
[Season 1] - 9/10
"Despite some areas of narrative and pacing dry spells that are few and far in between, The Rings of Power, alongside its exceptional high production values, manages to take all of its various moving storylines and bring them to a fulfilling and excitement worthy finale. It’s at the end, where the series is truly elevated into something worthy of its franchise connection."

5. Halo

[Season 1] - TBA

6. Chucky
[Season 1] - 8/10
"A solid follow up to the franchise offering surprisingly clever writing surrounding most of its characters and storytelling while finding a nice enough tonal balance between horror and comedy. The show also treats the hardcore fans with a plethora of references and expansion elements to its previous movies solidifying itself as a legitimate sequel while paving the way for interesting new ideas. And yes...there's no shortage of kill scenes to enjoy if that's your biggest appeal."

[Season 2] - TBA

7. Star Wars: Visions
[Season 1] - 8/10

8. Foundation
[Season 1] - 9/10

9. The Mandalorian
[Season 1] - 9/10
"The first live action series within the Star Wars franchise so happens to be one of the best Star Wars properties to grace the screen since the original trilogy. The Mandalorian offers top notch visual direction, highly entertaining action sequences, simplistic but satisfying storytelling, and a memorable cast of characters."

[Season 2] - 9/10

“The Mandalorian’s second outing succeeds in every way that its predecessor did with the added geek out worthy bonus of giving characters from the Star Wars expanded universe their first live action appearances and widening the scope of the story.”

[Season 3] - TBA

10. The Witcher

[Season 1] - 9/10
"Despite a few nitpicks within some of the direction sensibilities (though the show still impresses with its limited budget via incredibly choreographed fight sequences), The Witcher's overall creative vision feels like it stems from a place of love for the source material and games. The core ensemble of characters are all well adapted as is the gritty fantasy world and deeply layered storytelling for the most part."

[Season 2] -  9/10
"Season 2 of the Witcher not only fulfilled my wishlist, but exceeded expectations in certain areas. We get an overall massive upscale in cinematic presentation, highly impressive creature feature segments, a fantastic sense of lore exploration with new intriguing storylines, and an amazing character relationship being built up through our titular leads."

11. Undone
[Season 1] - 9/10
"Undone is a highly ambitious and creatively constructed story experience telling a deeply immersive character journey through the lenses of a brilliantly utilized animation style."

[Season 2] - TBA

12. The Terror
[Season 1] - 9/10
"A beautifully directed and psychologically thrilling cinematic treasure of a survival-horror story."

[Season 2] - 9/10
"The Terror continues what now appears to be a solid track record of noteworthy visual direction, great performances overall, and a legitimately uneasy sense of tension within both its horror and dramatic story elements. My only nitpick comes with some of the more fantastical character development ideas that, although beautifully directed, took the season into a direction that I wasn't particularly a fan of."

13. Stranger Things
[Season 1] - 9/10

[Season 2] - 9/10

[Season 3] - 9/10

[Season 4] - 9/10

14. The Haunting of Hill House
[Season 1] - 9/10
"An artistically masterful horror series that tells a deeply compelling ghost story amongst an emotionally charging family drama."

[Season 2] - TBA

15. Love, Death & Robots
[Season 1] - 7/10
"Love, Death, & Robots boasts incredible visual FX and noteworthy art direction altogether with sprinkles of interesting ideas (albeit familiar territory). Unfortunately, aside from 3 legitimately entertaining entries, this anthology series suffers from mostly bland performances and forgettable short stories."

[Season 2] - 7/10

[Season 3] - 8/10

[Finished Series]

1. Obi-Wan Kenobi
[Season 1] - 8/10

2. The Book of Bobba Felt
[Season 1] - 8/10
"On one end, The Book of Boba Fett sadly does not entirely fulfill its initial gritty Star Wars crime thriller pitch as effectively as hoped due to occasionally questionable story direction and a fairly weak set up of its primary conflicts and character motivations. On the other end, it does offer up quite the assortment of amazing fan service via engaging mythology expansion and amazing live action character adaptation debuts."

3. The War of the Worlds
[Season 1] - 8/10
"Though The War of the Worlds may slip up occasionally in some of its visual FX work, the miniseries balances this with strong enough character development, solid performances by the two main leads, and serviceably executed storytelling."

4. Game of Thrones

[Season 1] - 10/10

[Season 2] - 10/10

[Season 3] - 10/10

[Season 4] - 10/10

[Season 5] - 9/10

[Season 6] - 8/10

[Season 7] - 9/10

[Season 8] - 9/10

[Series Rating] - 9/10
"Game of Thrones has conquered over every other live action series in many regards. The series offers arguably the greatest ensemble of complex heroes and villains ever shown on a single show while managing to deliver absolutely compelling and multi-layered character arcs for the majority of them. The series also includes some of the most intriguing world building, engaging political conflicts, and by far the most cinematically spectacular action sequences ever put to television."

5. Killjoys
[Season 1] - 8/10

[Season 2] - 9/10
"A major step up from the previous season in regards to storytelling and world building issuing in a much more focused and dramatically investing overarching plot."

[Season 3] - 9/10

[Season 4] - 9/10

[Season 5] - 8/10
"Killjoys ends its series with a solid enough final season delivering on the most important element since the show's conception being its entertaining core ensemble. Despite some negatives such as the noteworthy world expansion component of previous seasons feeling absent here in addition to dealing with a terribly over the top season villain, the fun factor of watching the main characters interact remains successfully intact till the very end."

[Series Rating] - 8/10
"Killjoys is a solid and fun science-fiction series that, despite its occasional struggles with budgetary restraints, lacking performances, and weak writing, balances its watchable factor with a highly entertaining core ensemble and praiseworthy at times world building."

6. The Strain
[Season 1] - 9/10

[Season 2] - 7/10

[Season 3] - 8/10

[Season 4] - 8/10

[Series Rating] - 8/10

7. Penny Dreadful
[Season 1] - 10/10

[Season 2] - 9/10

[Season 3] - 9/10

[Series Rating] - 9/10
"Penny Dreadful is a cinematic masterpiece for gothic horror fans presenting emotionally captivating stories, an engrossing mythology, richly developed characters, magnificent performances, and a spellbinding sense of visual flare."

8. Salem
[Season 1] - 10/10
"A welcomed surprise within the small screen horror market considering that the dramatic character moments and storytelling elements are just as beautifully executed as the show's scariest piece of imagery.

[Season 2] - 7/10

[Season 3] - 8/10

[Series Rating] - 8/10

9. Rosemary's Baby
[Series Rating] - 9/10
"An underrated, well produced, and well directed reboot of the cult classic horror film of the same name"

[Cancelled Series]

1. Raised By Wolves
[Season 1] - 9/10
"Raised By Wolves is what I'd like to call 'fascinating and cool sci-fi' which can all be taken in from the intriguing unique mythos and story surrounding a world of religious conflict under a technologically advanced and very alien feeling prism. The 'cool factor' however comes prominently with the striking visuals from the cinematic presentation of particular settings and action driven scenes as the characters continue to pull you into this twisting and turning tale of survival."

[Season 2] - 9/10
"Raised By Wolves continue to both successfully enrich and expand on its previous strengths being fascinating science-fiction lore building and concepts through the introduction of a new setting, wider scope conflicts, and the offering of more genre delights such as creature feature segments and techno-horror imagery."

[Series Rating] - 9/10

2. Cowboy Bebop
[Series Rating] - 7/10

3. Lovecraft Country
[Series Rating] - 9/10
"Lovecraft Country, to my absolute surprise and delight, ended up being one of the best shows of the modern age as it creatively told a dramatically engaging cultural story about generational conflict and legacy through the prism of crowd pleasing genre bending entertainment."

4. Penny Dreadful: City of Angels
[Series Rating] - 8/10
"Acting as a spinoff to one of the greatest horror-drama series of all time, City of Angels doesn’t quite stick the landing as strongly as its predecessor. Ironically, it’s in the show’s more supernatural heavy elements where it lacks the impact that the mainline series offered in masterful subtlety and build up (aside from Natalie Dormer’s multi-role concept). Surprisingly, where it does succeed is in its slightly more grounded character drama/mystery component leaning on a more relatable story about racial tension, high stakes political conspiracies, cultural belief disputes, and the affects that said conflicts can have on families."

5. Altered Carbon
[Season 1] - 9/10
"Altered Carbon is a welcomed treat for sci-fi lovers boasting high production values within its visually impressive universe, a well developed cast of characters, and a binge worthy noir that gets better with each episode."

[Season 2] - 9/10
"Altered Carbon continues on a notable track record of conceptually intriguing and narratively engaging science-fiction storytelling while upping the scales on all of its previously established strengths. Most notably here is a stronger sense of visual spectacle and dramatic stakes while presenting a much more memorable cast of characters."

[Series Rating] - 9/10

6. Castle Rock
[Season 1] - 8/10
"Castle Rock feels like an interesting, albeit slow and stretched out, episode of The Twilight Zone filled with head scratching moments that is mostly worth staying onboard to the end."

[Season 2] - 9/10
"Castle Rock improves on several elements that brought its first outing down to just being 'an intriguing watch'. Most significantly is its stronger entertainment value presenting a much more engaging story tying various Stephen King mythology together with the addition of a scene stealing lead performance by Lizzy Caplan."

[Series Rating] - 8/10

7. Channel Zero
[Season 1] - 7/10
"Channel Zero's first go around presents a fascinating concept sprinkled with eerie imagery and a truly creepy atmosphere that sadly gets dragged down via wooden performances from most of its cast."

[Season 2] - 9/10
"In its 2nd season run, Channel Zero showcases one of the rarest examples of both horror and drama perfectly intertwining to tell a genuinely emotional character story amongst a satisfying balance of scares, thrills, and mystery."

[Season 3] - 9/10
"Season 3 delivers quite the assortment of nightmare fuel imagery surrounding an absolutely bizarre setting and an intriguing fairy tale."

[Season 4] - 8/10
"An interesting blend of tonal and dramatic twists that does take some adjusting to in order to fully appreciate the story's bizarre vision. However, the season is at its most entertaining whenever its star creature gets to shine."

[Series Rating] - 8/10

8. Ash Vs. Evil Dead
[Season 1] - 9/10

[Season 2] - 8/10
"With a solid enough mixture of hilarious one liners, outrageous blood soaked violence, eye popping visuals, and the expected sprinkles of cheesiness, Season 2 begins and ends on a high note with its only dull point being the central villain."

[Season 3] - 9/10

[Series Rating] - 9/10
"A more than satisfyingly entertaining follow up to a film franchise that successfully keeps the crazy and bloody ventures of Ash Williams alive"

9. Emerald City
[Series Rating] - 7/10

10. Forever
[Series Rating] - 9/10

11. Helix
[Season 1] - 8/10

[Season 2] - 9/10

[Series Rating] - 8/10

12. Haven
[Series Rating] - 8/10
"One of the most interesting and story-wise imaginative supernatural TV series on the market boasting a fun and intriguing cast of characters, a constantly evolving labyrinth of plot twists to keep the viewers on edge, and a fascinating universe worthy of exploring on an episode-to-episode basis."

13. Alphas
[Series Rating] - 9/10
"The closest thing to a well executed live action X-Men TV series with a unique scientifically grounded and character focused approach."

14. Almost Human
[Series Rating] - 9/10
"A potential filled and entertaining science-fiction series with promising world building elements and solid production values."

[No Plans To Continue]

1. Maniac

2. Black Sails
[Season 1] - 8/10

3. The Shannara Chronicles
[Season 1] - 7/10

4. The Exorcist
[Season 1] - 6/10

5. Dominion
[Season 1] - 6/10
"With a rather lackluster first season centering around a dull and forgettable cast of characters, weak storytelling, and monotonous performances, Dominion only shows its potentially large cinematic scope during an unexpectedly impressive finale."
